I put my beautiful Ibanez Artwood guitar on CraigsList a few weeks ago and no one called, no one emailed. NO ONE... it was a thousand dollar guitar that I was selling for about four hundred bucks. I was including all kinds of crap with it too. But no one cared, no one even looked.
So, having been schooled in marketing I thought, "What the hell is wrong with me, I cannot even get someone to take a look at a beautiful Ibanez guitar?" So, I decided to sell a four hundred dollar generic guitar pick instead. I talked about where the pick had been. What kind of music it had played. The people it helped make music with. And at the end, I threw in that I was giving a free guitar with the pick, because all great picks need a great guitar.
The next day, I was swamped with calls and emails from people wanting to buy my guitar, and of course the pick. It just goes to show what good copy will do for a generic guitar pick.
Next I am selling my baby grand piano... I should just cut to the chase scene and sell a twelve thousand dollar generic metronome instead and give away the piano free with it.
Edit: Here is my ad on craigslist
